The proposed work addresses the issues of interpretation of data, responsive action, and managing the information in sensing systems. It addresses decision and control based on sensor information, and on incorporating uncertainty and risk into decision making for use with imperfectly sensed data. The research will draw on ideas from Signal Detection Theory, Economics, Game Theory and Operations Research to define innovative screening procedures which may produce as much as a factor of two improvement in detection rates at no increase in cost. The project promotes interdisciplinary research for enhancing the relationship between the operations research program physics, and engineering programs.
