This work will adapt and implement a Si-drift detector suitable for Compton imaging. The PIs will develop suitable algorithms based on the capability of this device which will accomplish Compton imaging based primarily on the energy deposition patterns of the Compton electron. They propose another effort beyond building and software development in which they would evaluate other electron tracking efforts. The project could benefit passive interrogation technology by providing a higher resolution, low noise detectors. For certain applications in Homeland Security and astrophysics, the use of additional source location information can significantly enhance detection efficiency. This would be enhanced by electron tracking as this would reduce the uncertainty in the location further and allow better background subtraction.
