This request is for support to broaden and diversify the student participation in the 23rd International Conference on Parallel Architecture and Compilation Techniques (PACT 2014). PACT is the premier event that brings together researchers from architecture, compilers, applications and languages to present and discuss innovative research of common interest. The students receiving travel support will benefit from the opportunity to engage in the technical, professional, educational and social exchanges that PACT fosters. The conference serves as an open forum to exchange research results and develop new ideas, as an educational platform to expose students to new research methodologies, tools, and infrastructures, and as a social event to network and prepare students as future researchers. More broadly, this travel support will increase the attendance of under-represented minorities and talented undergraduate students, attracting them to graduate schools.

Project Report

This award helped to broaden and diversify the student participation in the 23rd International Conference on Parallel Architecture and Compilation Techniques (PACT 2014). PACT is the premier event that brings together researchers from architecture, compilers, applications and languages to present and discuss innovative research of common interest. This year’s conference, being in its 23rd year, will be held from August 24 to August 27, 2014 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. We received 33 applicants, including 18 main conference paper presenters, 7 poster paper presenters, and 8 ACM SRC (student research competition) paper presenters. PACT'2014 received student travel support funds from US NSF, ACM SIGARCH, IEEE TCPP and IEEE TCCA. We didn't turn down any applicant and, together with the support from ACM SRC, were able to support each student at about the same level. The fund from NSF was used to support students from US institutes. With the support from NSF, the students receiving travel support benefited from the opportunity to engage in the technical, professional, educational and social exchanges that PACT fosters. In addition, PACT’2014 was strengthened with increased number of student attendance that this travel grant enabled. One undergraduate paper presenter was supported by the fund to attend the conference.
