A workshop on networked embedded sensing and control was held at the University of Notre Dame on October 17-18, 2005. This workshop aims to bring together researchers from different scientific domains including sensing and estimation, control, coding/communications, ad hoc networking, real-time scheduling and distributed computation, among others, to establish shared foundations and to identify the main scientific challenges of the emerging area of networked embedded sensing and control. The workshop highlights a unique mix of research areas not currently well represented in established research conference venues. A key goal is to foster greater cross-domain interaction within these venues. NSF support enables participation in the workshop by graduate students who may pursue research in this area and augments interaction among students, academicians and industry.
