The Symposium On Usable Privacy and Security (SOUPS) brings together an interdisciplinary group of researchers and practitioners in human computer interaction, security, and privacy. The program features technical papers, workshops and tutorials, a poster session, panels and invited talks, and discussion sessions. The ninth SOUPS will be held July 24-26, 2013 at Northumbria University in Newcastle, UK. The funds support travel grants for American students to attend the conference. SOUPS is the top conference devoted to usable privacy and security. By increasing student participation at the SOUPS conference, it may encourage more students to get involved in usable security research and pursue further graduate education and careers in this area.
The goal of the Symposium On Usable Privacy and Security (SOUPS) is to bring together an interdisciplinary group of researchers and practitioners in human computer interaction, security, and privacy to present and discuss cutting edge research. The ninth SOUPS was held July 24-26, 2013 at Northumbria University in Newcastle, UK. The program featured technical papers, workshops and tutorials, a poster session, panels and invited talks, and discussion sessions. SOUPS is a unique, interdisciplinary conference that focuses on an important aspect of computer security and privacy that is often overlooked by traditional security researchers. The conference has played an important role as a catalyst that has helped foster interdisciplinary collaborations and encouraged more researchers to enter this field. In 2013, SOUPS was attended by 180 people from around the world. There were 15 papers and 25 posters presented in the main conference. In addition 27 short papers were presented as part of the workshop on the first day of SOUPS. The SOUPS 2013 workshops were: Workshop on Home Usable Privacy and Security (HUPS); Workshop on Risk Perception in IT Security and Privacy; and A Turn for the Worse: Trustbusters for User Interfaces Workshop.
