This award is made under the high performance connections portion of ANIR's "Connections to the Internet" announcement, NSF 968-102. It provides partial support for two years for an OC-3 connection to the vBNS. Applications include projects in network QoS management, remote robotics control for tele-surgery involving both national and international collaborators; simulation of free fluid dynamics, research in multimedia communications, high energy particle physics, databases in geological and archaeological sciences and distance learning. Collaborating institutions include the Texas A&M, Cornell U, GTE, Bryn Mawr, the Meadows School of the Arts, International Craniofacial Institute in Dallas and the Institute of Neurosurgery N.N. Burdenko in Moscow, Russia.
