This award is for the acquisition of a mass spectrometer that combines triple quadrupole functionality with the sensitivity and rapid scanning of a linear ion trap. This combination makes the instrument ideal for small molecule structural characterization, metabolite profiling and proteomic applications, including the detection of post-translationally modified proteins. Acquisition of this instrument will facilitate a wide range of projects in environmental microbiology, atmospheric chemistry, chemical communication, metallochemistry, lipid signaling, Arabidopsis plant proteins, and xenobiotics that require these applications.

The acquisition of this instrument will facilitate the research and education of students at this Master's level university. The instrument will also benefit researchers and students at the Health Sciences Center and at the undergrad college, Metropolitan State College.
