An award has been made to the American Museum of Natural History under the direction of Dr. George Amato for the acquisition of instrumentation for high throughput genotyping and associated equipment. The instruments will enhance several research projects dealing with genetics of natural populations, including research on Arctic mammals, invasive bird and mammal species, and genotyping of malaria parasites and other microorganisms. Researchers have formed partnerships with the natural resource managers, New York Botanical Garden, and other groups in their research. The museum also has strong public outreach programs to inform audiences of the importance of genetic information in the research topics mentioned above. The instruments will become part of the Institute for Comparative Genomics, which involves students at various college levels, with active recruitment efforts aimed at minorities and women.
