This award provides support for the 31st annual meeting of the Southeastern-Atlantic Regional Conferences on Differential Equations (SEARCDE), held October 21-22, 2011 at Georgia State University. The conference financially supports participation by students and recent Ph.D. recipients.
The meeting includes plenary lectures on topics of current research interest and also especially encourages lectures by students and recent Ph.D. recipients. The conference brings together workers in a variety of different areas of research in differential equations, with emphasis on providing opportunities for new researchers to present their work.
(SEARCDE) has met annually since 1981. It was initiated by members of the Department of Mathematics at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and has since then rotated among the research institutions in the southeast. The Thirty First SEARCDE conference was held at Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Georgia, on September 30- October 1, 2011. The conference was very well attended with exactly 100 registered participants. There were 61 regular 20 minute talks as well as three 50 minute plenary presentations and one 50 min demonstration of the differential analyzer machine. A wide range of topics, including ordinary and partial differential equations, dynamical systems, integral and functional equations, numerical methods, wavelets, inverse problems, statistics, control theory, optimization and applications to biology, finance, engineering and the sciences in general were covered. In the no-cost extension period, some participants to seminars and a Miniconference on Graduate Research held on April 27, 2013 at Georgia Southern University were partially supported by this grant. All activities (the main conference, the seminars, and the miniconference) provided a forum for faculty and students to exchange ideas and initiate research projects. In addition, student participants were exposed to research material, and presentation from well-known experts in the field, providing inspiration both regarding research and exposition skills.
