This conference on Approximation Theory will be held at Texas A & M January 6-10, 1989. It will feature 9 one-hour survey lectures, and several sessions for contributed papers. A conference proceedings will be published. Invited speakers include Bob Barnhill, Ron DeVore, Frand Deutsch, Nira Dyn, Paul Nevai, Vasil Popov, and Herbert Stahl. Topics to be emphasized are multivariate splines, fitting multivariate data, orothogonal polynomials, complex approximation, rational approximation, abstract approximation, modern moduli of smoothness, and computer-aided design. The conference organizers are Professors Schumaker, Chui, and Ward of the Mathematics Department of Texas A. & M. Some participant support is available.
