The Young Scholars Institute will consist of two independent two-week sessions to be conducted during the summers of 1989 and 1990. Each session will enroll 9th and 10th graders which will be divided into four groups, each led by a faculty researcher assisted by a high school science teacher. Ecological principles will provide references from which participants can be introduced to the methods of scientific research as well as to career opportunities in the sciences. Classroom instruction, problem solving, and exposure to several unique research environments. All participants will be engaged in skill development and skill application, including hands-on activities and exposure to a variety of research methods and techniques.
