This award provides support for a workshop which represents a culmination of 3 years of meetings that were held as part of the GEON project. The GEOscience Network (GEON) project seeks to bring leading-edge information management research to bear on creating a cyberinfrastructure for the solid earth geosciences to interlink multidisciplinary geoscience data sets in 4D space. Since it's inception in October 2002, GEON has organized an annual "All-Hands Meeting". Geoinformatics 2006 will provide a national forum for researchers and educators from the geosciences and information technology & computer science disciplines to present new data, data analyses, modeling techniques, visualization schemes, and information technologies, as they relate to developing the cyberinfrastructure for the Geosciences. The meeting provides a forum for researchers in geoinformatics to meet and discuss the latest advances in this new and growing area. The meeting will include presentations of selected papers, a poster session, and keynote talks by leading researchers in Geosciences as well as Information Technology.
Geoinformatics 2006 willl be co-hosted by the USGS. The meeting will be held at the auditorium in the USGS Headquarters in Reston, VA. The meeting will also be sponsored by ESRI, Inc.
