This renewal International REU (IREU) Site will introduce several major innovative improvements to the core program that will: (a) increase its impact and effectiveness by creating a more seamless conduit for students between undergraduate and graduate work, (b) increase the extent of graduate and post-graduate mentoring of participating undergraduate students by US and international student researchers, further enriching students international experience and global scientific perspective and (c) strengthen collaborative US/European research programs encompassing optical materials, lasers and photonics, some of the hottest topics in science today.
This will be a two-year research experience for about 5 (junior) students per year. The first summer internship will be carried out in a research program at the University of Central Florida (UCF) or Clemson under the mentorship of a European graduate/post-doc as part of a US/European collaborative research program. Their second summer internship will be performed in a collaborating European research institution, continuing research in the same research discipline, thereby providing the students with a solid research foundation preparatory to graduate study.
This site is co-funded by the Office of International Science and Engineering (OISE), Europe and Eurasia Program.
