This award provides funding for a 3 year standard award to support a Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) in Engineering Site program at the University of Houston entitled, RET Site at the University of Houston: "Innovations in Nanotechnology," under the direction of Dr. Frank J. Claydon. The University of Houston, Cullen College of Engineering seeks to give Houston area high school STEM teachers the opportunity to collaborate with highly experienced and nationally recognized faculty in the field of nanotechnology. This proposal will support 12 high school STEM teachers from the greater Houston area for a six week summer program each year for three years during which they will be infused with enthusiasm for the field of engineering and knowledge about nanotechnology research which will be subsequently shared with their respective high school classes. Essential elements of the program include participation in research projects under the guidance of a UH faculty mentor and graduate student mentor, expert training in the development of a "Legacy Cycle" nanotechnology teaching module, and professional development activities.
