Missouri University of Science and Technology (MUST) is planning to join the Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC)entitled "Center for Net Centric Software and Systems" which currently is a multi- university center comprised of the University of North Texas (lead institution), the University of Texas at Dallas, and Arizona State University.

MUST requests funding for becoming a site of the Center for Net Centric Software and Systems, under the leadership of Professor Sanjay Madria. The funds from this planning grant will be used primarily to organize an industry-university meeting that will help market the proposed site to industry. The proposed site will bring capabilities in situational-aware collaborative computing to the center. Initial research projects at the planning meeting will be in areas such as sensor data fusion, secure and trusted data aggregation, software code optimization and cloud computing. The research group at MUST will, therefore, bring several complementary research capabilities to the current Net Centric research thrusts.

Research findings at the proposed site will enhance knowledge of scientific community and industrial members in the area of Net-centric computing and wireless technologies. Utilizing existing programs and facilities, MUST will support and extend its efforts and seek to integrate new paradigms developed in its educational curriculum. Plans are also detailed for outreach to recruit students from underrepresented groups.

Project Report

The planning grant has resulted in starting a site for the Industry/University Co-operative Research Center on Net-centric Systems and Software at Missouri S & T. The planning meeting showcased the work of our faculty investigators and PhD/MS graduate students in the area of secure and trusted wireless sensor systems, reconfiguration and resource management in wireless networks, data compression in wireless networks, secure cloud computing, secure cyber physical systems, secure messaging in delay tolerant networks and many others. Meeting discussed a common research agenda and educational goals of the proposed site with the prospective members. The planning meeting also established a process for industrial members to adopt the policies, bylaws and membership agreement of the Net-Centric I/UCRC. The I/UCRC center is formally established in Aug 2012. The mission of the proposed center is to perform basic and applied research and train students in wireless Net-centric computing, sensing, resource management, cloud computing, QoS, security, trust, privacy, mobile cloud computing, 3D IC design, and battery optimization. Applications include defense and homeland security, secure data outsourcing via cloud computing and big data management. Research problems that the I/UCRC site is currently engaed in varies from secure and trusted cloud computing, mobile cloud computing, optimizing run time execution of software specially in telecommunication networks, and 3D IC design, and battery optimization important in many small devices which communicate wirelessly. The center is uniquely positioned and promoting research, education, and large scale industry activities nationally as well as internationally. It is also promoting scholarship and research dissemination by presenting and publishing papers in prestigious conferences and journals. The center is contributing toward producing a highly trained workforce that will support emerging industrial research and development activities.
