The PI is requesting funding for the acquisition of several pieces of ship-based oceanographic equipment including: conductivity, temperature and depth system (CTD); acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP); underway data acquisition system (UDAS); continuous underway fish egg samplers (CUFES); and meteorological equipment. The proposed instrumentation will be installed on board the R/V Coral Sea, owned and operated by Humboldt State University, which currently lacks this standard research vessel instrumentation (apart from the CUFES system), and will be used to support faculty research, student training, and ocean observing efforts.
Broader Impacts The proposed instrumentation will support the strong educational component of the proposal (coursework and student research opportunities), as well as enable increased research capabilities of the vessel for internal and external researchers and educators. The observations collected by the proposed instrumentation will also be used to support the national ocean observing backbone.
