This project will test and develop a new approach to provide quantitative measures of the rates and fluxes of major nutrients and associated minor and trace elements in the upper ocean. More specifically, a suite of naturally occurring radionuclides of phophorus, berillium and thoriam will be measured to directly trace ocean mixing rates, fluxes of particulate matter, and residence time and exchange rates in relevant biological populations. A field test of the new laboratory techniques will be conducted in the Gulf of Maine on a series of short cruises in 1997 to allow for non-steady state models. +f/ªÛ=+ ± ?- ¼- + r ª u r -!ª -!ª -!ª -!ª -!ª K @¹+ Normal a ` A@ +- ` Default Paragraph Font r r ++++ ++ r ª r % * 1 p r t = harriet regina eason%\CLM-07HEASON.$abstractsBacon.doc+@HP LaserJet 4L LPT1: HPPCL5MS HP LaserJet 4L HP LaserJet 4L ` @ g , , @ MSUDN HP LaserJet 4L > ( ` d HP LaserJet 4L ` @ g , , @ MSUDN HP LaserJet 4L > ( ` d Ð p p p o 1 + Times New Roman + Symbol &+ Arial ` A ª f h ª# FN* f+) f C Z ª ! ?
