This award supports U.S. participation in the Sixth Antarctic Earth Sciences Symposium to be held September 9-13, 1991, at Saitama, Japan. The symposium has four principal themes: 1) Tectonic Evolution of the Antarctic Crust in Gondwana 2) West Antarctica and East Antarctic/West Antarctica Relationship 3) Crustal and Upper Mantle Structure of the Antarctic Continent and Surrounding Oceans 4) Cenozoic Glacial History of Antarctica and Paleo- environments of the Southern Oceans The U.S. research effort in earth sciences encompasses many of the stated themes and sub-themes of the meeting, and a substantial number of U.S. earth scientists can be expected to attend and present results.
