?Funding request to have Participation of Statisticians and Numerical Analysts participate in the workshop Modern Challenges for Lattice Field Theory?
A workshop entitled Modern Challenges for Lattice Field Theory will be conducted at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics in Santa Barbara from January 10 ? April 1, 2005. The coordinators of this program are M. Creutz, J. Kogut, H. Neuberger, and T. Wettig. Approximately 25 theorists per week will assemble to focus on four topics of special importance for advancing the research frontier in the future. This proposal is to enrich the program by enabling the participation of statisticians and numerical analysts, researchers who normally have not been engaged with the physicists conducting this line of research. We expect that their involvement will mutually enhance both mathematical research, by encouraging mathematical questions of physical interest and physics research, by informing participants about what mathematical results and techniques are available to promote their work.
