Non-insulin dependent diabetes is five times more common in hispanic as compared to caucasian americans while in hispanics hypertension is only 1.5 - 1.8 Fold greater. This suggests that hispanic individuals maybe protected from the hemodynamic effects of insulin resistance. To test this hypothesis hyperinsulinemic obese, nondiabetic caucasian and Afro- Americans will be tested with the euglycemic clamp to determine fractional excretion of sodiu. It is expected that hispanics will demonstrate a lesser sodium retaining effect of insulin as compared to Afro-Americans.
