The goal of this contract is to provide support of National Toxicology Program (NTP) hazard identification activities targeted toward the prevention of diseases or adverse effects caused by environmental exposure to chemical or physical agents. This contract supports the development of pertinent information and data on substances under consideration for toxicological evaluation by the National Toxicology Program (NTP). Substances evaluated by the NTP include chemical, physical and biological agents to which humans are likely to be exposed and for which there is inadequate toxicity information to accurately estimate potential human health risks. The NIEHS Office of Chemical Nomination and Selection supports the NTP by coordinating the review and selection process for substances under consideration for study. The contractor conducts comprehensive literature searches and prepares Toxicological Summary reports that are used in the formal open public process for the evaluation and selection of agents for study by the NTP. This project also aids the NTP by collecting the information available on the toxic effects of chemicals and their metabolites, and structurally related chemicals. This information, along with the data generated by the NTPs testing programs, is also used in the preparation of NTP Technical Reports.
