This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This work will examine more efficient methods for the synthesis of nitroalcohols, which serve as precursors for the production of the proposed tetraester macrocycle. Many of the literature methods for the creation of the above alcohols give low yields of impure products. The lab wishes to expand their work of silica gel mediated synthesis. They hope to change the characteristics of aninosilane compounds and perhaps create novel polymers that could serve as recyclable catalysts in the formation of nitroalcohols.
