Dr. Smith works extensively in tropical biology, including fieldwork in the Philippine Islands, the Amazonian lowlands of Peru, the Pacific island of Guam, and tropical lowland areas in Costa Rica and Guatemala. His research interests include tropical biology, conservation biology, and herpetology. He is currently working on the conservation biology of the reptiles of Caribbean islands in the Lesser Antilles island chain. This project was completed during release time for Dr. Smith.
