This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. We have been experimenting with several new materials for possible SPCE applications. For example we are using two alloys of Aluminium. The new film is a two phase mixture of crystalline Al and amorphous Si. The films have resistivities in the range of several hundred micro-ohm-cm, which makes them poor metals. We have found that these stick quite well to glass, and also they can be deposited as amorphous insulating nitrides by sputtering in mixed argon/nitrogen gas.
