This proposal solicits funding from theNational Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) inorder to support the NLN Patient Summit: Lymphedema: Sharing Our World ofKnowledge , October 5 -7, 2007, in Atlanta, GA (Funding Opportunity Number CDC-PA-HM07-701). . The program will focus on lymphedema and the lymphatic system, cover topicswill include basic lymphatic physiology, the fundamentals of lymphedemapathophysiology, primary and secondary risk-reduction, self-care methods, treatmentoptions, insurance reimbursement and legislative issues. Participants will be rendereddiscriminating consumers of proper and safe lymphedema treatment and training ineffective self-advocacy will be emphasized. The Patient Summit is a unique forum thatempowers patients with the knowledge and skills required to successfully cope with thiswidely marginalized condition.
