Discipline: Special Projects Track 1: Sample Collection Project Summary/Abstract: This application is to request the funding opportunity under Track 1: Sample Collection of Discipline D: Special Projects. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) Division of Food Safety includes both the sampling organization (Bureau of Food Inspection) and the Bureau of Laboratories that have the responsibility for the testing of human food products. The goal of this Special Project is to assist the sampling organization in providing the samples needed for the laboratories to meet the goals of the LFFM cooperative agreement. Funds provided under this track will be utilized to compensate the sampling organization for purchasing supplies to utilize during sample collection and to pay for shipping costs. The Bureau of Food Inspection collects and ships between 2,000 - 3,000 manufactured food samples to the laboratories each year as part of an annual sample collection agreement. To support the sample collection initiative and to assist in fulfilling this high sample collection load, a grant award of $45,000 per year for a total of five years is requested by the Bureau of Food Inspection.
