The workshop on the future directions in numerical computing and optimization will be held at the Stanford University, California in early April 2007, most likely in the Gates Computer Science Building. We estimate a turnout of at least 80 participants from the numerical computing and optimization communities, doing either theoretical research or important applications in science and engineering. The workshop is expected to bring in a large group of researchers in various stages of their career from the key leaders in the field to the graduate students. This will be accomplished by inviting a number of speakers with national and international visibility and leadership including women researchers. The proposed workshop is strategically proposed to be co-located with the 50th History of Numerical Computing workshop.
