This is an International Travel Grant to support the Principal Investigator's travel to and participation at two meetings in Western Europe: 1. "Italian Seminars on Reinforced Masonry Structures", Naples, Ancona, Udine, and Vicenza, Italy, October 7-12, 1991, CONZORSIO POROTON ITALIA. 2. "Ninth International Brick/Block Conference", Berlin, Germany, October 13-18, 1991, Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Maumauerwerksbau (DGfM), German Masonry Association in Bonn. Participation at the two meetings will enable the Principal Investigator to: 1. Present an invited paper, "Reinforced Masonry Design Practices", at the Italian series of seminars, and 2. Represent the U.S. at the International Conference in Berlin, Germany, and present a paper entitled "A Method for Determining Factors of Safety for Allowable Tensile Strength in Masonry". At both meetings, the Principal Investigator will be presenting specific results developed within the NSF sponsored and coordinated "TCCMAR Masonry Research Program". This effort will also provide the opportunity to further develop research cooperation between the U.S., Italy, and Germany in areas of advanced technologies involving masonry construction and seismic design.
