A grant has been awarded the University of Mississippi under the direction of Dr. Sean Wilson to acquire a confocal microscope for multidisciplinary research and education. The instrument will enhance the research of the investigators by providing more highly resolved images of tissues and cells in a range of studies, including live-cell imaging and physiology, histochemistry, morphology, and materials sciences. The researchers will study bacteria, fungi, plants, corals, fish, mammalian cells and tissues, polymers, biofilms, and synthetic as well as natural compounds. The confococal microscope will be used in a microscopy training program, academic courses, and workshops to train users. Underrepresented groups of students will be recruited through ongoing programs and internships.
