This conference grant initiates a program of human resource development that is intended to increase the participation of women and members of other underrepresented groups in the molecular sciences. The conference will take place in three stages over a one-year period. The goal of the conference is to stimulate the development of modular resources in the molecular sciences, showing how people from different sectors of society entered science for different reasons and purposes, the barriers these individuals had to overcome o establish their careers, and how their scientific research has influenced our lives today. The outcome will be a series of `Personal Case Histories` for use by science teachers which will support the national standards for teaching on the high-school level.
