Currently, there are no evidence-based tools to guide communication regarding potential benefits and harmsof ADHD treatment options, and the value families place on each. Moreover, there have been no systematicefforts to elucidate family preferences for involvement in decision making or to create explicit mechanisms toensure the level of participation that is desired. A decision aid will facilitate informed, collaborative decisionmaking between parents and praditioners and promote partnerships in which all stakeholders pursuecommon goals and share confidence in the chosen treatment/research plan. This proposal supports the development of a valuable resource designed to provide guidance to improveinformation exchange in clinical and research settings through the development of an interadive ADHDdecision aid and supportive Web site. These will be designed with compelling content to be provided in away that maximizes user interest and to assist parents with making the decision to initiate a medication tomanage the child's behavior, and also to provide long-term constant support for that decision. This onlineeducation initiative will help establish an eCommunity of experts and researchers in ADHD mental health. The outcome will be enhanced cooperation and collaboration between an informed, adivated family and aprepared, proadive pradice team.
