This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. We will be looking in great detail at the roles of beta cell function/dysfunction, in comparison with insulin resistance. Genetic loci linked to type 2 diabetes have been identified on chromosomes 2 and 15. We will be looking at beta cell function/dysfunction and insulin resistance in individuals with and without these known diabetes susceptibility loci. As additional loci are identified in the future, we will be able to include these loci in our analyses to define the effects of different diabetes susceptibility genes on insulin secretion and insulin action.
