This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Subject who participated in the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) will be followed to assess their long-term outcomes. All subjects were offered a modified lifestyle intervention based on that offered during the DPP. We wish to continue to test the hypothesis that progression from IGT to type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed by intensive lifestyle modification or metformin and to evaluate the effects of these interventions on selected inividual health outcomes, including cardiovascular disease adn risk factors.
