This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to identify the role of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (a virus that causes a respiratory infection) in respiratory illness in the pediatric home-ventilator patient. We will look at the occurrence of RSV during a respiratory illness and its effect on the bacteria that reside in the trachea as well as the effect on inflammation. This will help us understand not only the role of RSV, but also the change in bacteria and inflammation during a respiratory illness in the pediatric stable ventilation patient. This may help modify treatment during future respiratory illnesses, decreasing medical costs, and promoting better lung health in the patient.'
