It has also been shown to be a risk factor for stroke. Patients with recent stroke often have high blood sugars, but we do not know if that means the patient has pre-diabetes or if this is just a response to the stress of a stroke. In this study, we hope to determine what the best way is to diagnose pre-diabetes in patients who have just had a stroke. We will do this by evaluating the predictive value of blood markers of elevated blood sugar, specifically fasting plasma glucose, fasting insulin level, hemoglobin A1C, and fructosamine.'
