This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this research study is to investigate the function of different versions of a gene responsible for producing a particular enzyme, called cytochrome P450 3A5 (CYP3A5). We will study the effect of the different gene versions upon the metabolism of two medications, midazolam and erythromycin. We will also study the influence of the different gene versions upon the effect that the medication fluconazole has upon the metabolism of midazolam and erythromycin.
