The aim of this study is to refine a medical/behavioral intervention for fecal incontinencepreviously used in another study. The intent is for nurses to be able to implement this intervention to patients in an assisted living community in a future larger study. We refer to the new program as the FIX treatment program for fecal incontinence Rx .Participants: 30 patients age 18 or older of any gender that have been referred to the UNC GI Motility Laboratory for the evaluation and treatment of fecal incontinence.Procedures (methods): Patients will be instructed by the research nurse on a treatment program that includes both medical and behavioral interventions for fecal incontinence. After following the protocol for 6 weeks, the patients will return to report on their symptoms, give feedback on their satisfaction with the program and report any difficulties with adherence. Follow-up evaluation willbe scheduled at 3 months.
