This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This study will look at hormone levels in the body after taking two different types of birth control, the ORTHO EVRA patch and the ORTHO NOVUM pill. It is not known if taking ORTHO EVRA or ORTHO NOVUM and anti-HIV medication at the same time will change the amount of hormone or anti-HIV drug levels in a woman's body. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved ORTHO EVRA and ORTHO NOVUM for contraception, but they have not yet been tested in HIV-1 infected women taking Kaletra. The ORTHO EVRA patch and one ON 1/35 tablet will be supplied by the study. All participants will receive one ON 1/35 pill and then receive the ORTHO EVRA patch weekly for 3 weeks. Anti-HIV drugs, including Kaletra, are not supplied by the study. See Schema below:
