The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Workers with exposure to beryllium or patients with beryllium related disease are being invited to take part in a research study of beryllium exposure as measured in their induced sputum. We are also trying to measure if there is similarity between the amount of past or present exposure to beryllium a worker has (or had) and the amount of beryllium particles in his or her sputum. We are doing this to 1). find a test that can tell us if a person has beryllium-related lung disease without needing to do an invasive procedure, such as bronchoscopy and 2). to determine if sputum can be used to measure exposure to beryllium. Approximately 103 people will be enrolling in this study at National Jewish. Ninety-two (92) more people will be enrolled in Israel, making a total of 195 individuals enrolled in total in this study.
