The plasma prolactin response to a single dose of fenfluramine has been widely utilized as an indirect measure of central serotonergic function activity but recent safety concerns prohibit fenfluramine's continued use. The proposed methodological investigation concerns a new central serotonergic probe, citalopram and seeks to: 1) demonstrate the test-retest reliability of the citalopram challenge test and 2) demonstrate whether individual differences in plasma prolactin response to citalopram correlate with fenfluramine challenge test results obtained previously. This information is necessary to justify planned psychiatric investigations utilizing the citalopram challenge test.
