This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This study is a randomized controlled trial of home-based environmental and nurse case management for up to 200 low-income children and their caregivers. The primary specific aims and hypothesis of this study are to demonstrate that a combination of home-based environmental intervention and nurse case management services provided through a community asthma coalition (1) reduce activity limitations for low-income children, (2) reduce worries or concerns about asthma for primary caregivers, and (3) reduce common home environmental allergens and lead in household dust at 12-month follow-up. The GCRC supports allergy testing (RAST, IgE), lead testing, and spirometry testing for children enrolled in this study.
