This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The overall protocol analyzes expression of autoantibodies for a large number of patients and their relatives with autoimmunity. The clinical research center portion of the protocol allows the metabolic evaluation of a much smaller group of individuals expressing 21-hydroxylase autoantibodies to rule of the presence of Addison's disease and to prospectively define the progression to overt Addison's disease and in addition for individuals expressing anti-islet autoantibodies, glucose and insulin secretion is evaluated, to diagnose diabetes and to follow progression to diabetes in those at risk.
