Abstract

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. We hypothesize that the extent to which levels of F2-isoprostanes, products of free radical mediated lipid peroxidation, increase in plasma following forearm ischemia/reperfusion induced by inflating and deflating a blood pressure cuff will provide an accurate assessment of an individual's total antioxidant capacity and that this is impaired in the elderly.
