Abstract

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to compare two different types of insulin regimens for patients with T1DM. The investigation will determine whether a physiologic basal/bolus insulin replacement regimen with long and short acting analog insulins will provide improved glucose kinetics, carbohydrate, lipid flux, and post prandial glycemic control as compared to a twice daily 'split-mixed' insulin regimen of regular and intermediate acting insulins in patients with T1DM.
