Specific Aim 1 All patients with epilepsy ages 50 years and older who are capable of tolerating polysomnography will be invited to participate in comprehensive polysomnography in the Vanderbilt General Clinical Research Center (GCRC). These patients will be recruited from those presenting to the emergency department for evaluation of new-onset or worsening seizure frequency as well as the neurology clinic and the epilepsy monitoring unit.Hypothesis 2 The Sleep Apnea Scale of the Sleep Disorders Questionnaire (SA-SDQ) is a useful screening instrument for OSA in older adults with epilepsy.
Specific Aim 2 Administer the SA-SDQ to the group identified above. Determine its sensitivity and specificity in predicting OSA in this population.
