This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. As a complementary and alternative medicine pilot, researchers will evaluate the effects of massage therapy on blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature, urinary markers of general and oxidative stress (cortisol, 8-isoprostane, 8-OHdG), heart rate variability and mood. Through this pilot, investigators will determine the size and appropriate biomarkers to evaluate subjects in a larger clinical trial.
