This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This study will investigate the effect of a 4-month weight loss program on measures of vascular health. Forty participants will be recruited (20 control, 20 experiment) from a middle school. After baseline measurements are conducted at the GCRC they will meet with a dietitian weekly after school hours for 4 months. Flow-mediated dilation, arterial stiffness and blood specimen measurements will be performed at baseline and after the 4-month intervention. In addition, height, weight, circumferences, and body composition (DEXA) will be measured.
