This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This is an NIH-funded mycology research unit designed to isolate and study the genes and gene products in Candida that are responsible for its adherence to endothelial cells. The nursing staff of the PCRC screen all patients and identify eligible participants for cord harvesting. The nursing staff gathers and processes the cords to obtain the endothelial cells which are then plated. The nursing staff then follows specific protocol guidelines to insure proper storage of the cords and cell samples.
