This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Establish uniform subsets of hypertensives whose hereditary pattern and pathogenesis can then be elucidated. These phenotypes are evaluated in pedigrees with multi-generational essential hypertension, in an attempt to define their mode of inheritance, and ultimately to undertake genetic likage and association analyses. The goal is to discover loci predisposing to these disturbed phenotypes in hypertension as well as to hypertension itself. This protocol focuses on phenotypes related to the renal dopaminergic system.
