To characterize the viral dynamics and immulogical response of HIV-infected circulating lymphocytes and monocytes during acute and early HIV infection and following the initiation or interruption of potent antiretroviral therapy. To determine the relationship between the dynamics of circulating HIV and other tissue compartments for HIV, including cerebrospinal fluid, and smene and vaginal secretions during acute and early HIV infection. To characterize the genetic variance of HIV viral genotypes in the circulatory compartment of identified transmitters of HIV to individuals with primary HIV infection, as well as circulating and tissue compartments for HIV. To describe the natural history, etiology, pathogenesis, treatment effects and long term outcomes of acute/early HIV infection in the era of potent antiretroviral therapy.
